New Side Project – Desert Island Books

Alright, so it’s a new year, and that means a new side project!! My Desert Island Films project has been a huge success, and will keep going until I can no longer convince people to join. As a spin-off/side project/sister project/Frasier-to-my-Cheers……whatever you want to call it, with my good friend Anthony running it there will be a Desert Island Books project! Read on for the details.

Anthony, or Atothewr as people may recognise him as, has made a new site which you can find over at 262pages.com. It’s focus is on writing stuff, and a bit of movie stuff, and he came to me with the idea of Desert Island Books. I have been looking at expanding it somehow, and this way hopefully some of my readers who enjoy books will take part in his challenge, and maybe some of his book fans will head here and share their movie choices. I’m always interested in expanding and cross promotion, so I really hope this does well for Anthony, and is certainly a better option than Eric IPC’s suggestion where he pitched to me ‘Desert Island Men‘ and taking 8 men to an island. I told him only girls would want to play, but for some reason he was crazy keen…….that’s on the back burner for now though, so I’ll go with books first, sorry Eric ;) (LOVE!).

Seriously though, here is the low down on Desert Island Books, another link to how you can participate, and my choices for the island.

Imagine you are stuck on a desert island, the waves lapping the shore, the palm trees talking with the breeze. You have a hammock strung between these two palm trees, an endless supply of food and water, time is no longer your enemy. All you have to do is enjoy your days.

You there.

I mean mentally there.

Okay.

Here goes.

Now before you depart to your island you have to answer these three questions below.

1. You have a choice of one complete series of books or three individual books.

A series of books would be like The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, the Harry Potter series, or The Gunslinger series, for example. There are thousands of series out there so maybe you can enlighten me to some I haven’t seen.

If you didn’t want to be stuck with just one series you can choose three different books instead.

It has to be the Game of Thrones series.

I own them all, but they look so daunting. Being alone on the island would give me a chance to work through them. Failing that, I would have roughly a million pages of paper for making fires, writing rescue notes in bottles or lots of other uses. But I would hope I could sit down and get them all read.

2. Three CD’s you can’t live without – no greatest hits packages please (you will have a boom box with endless batteries to play them on).

30 Seconds To Mars – 30 Seconds To Mars

Being a film fan, I was aware of Jared Leto and wanted to check his band out one day at a local bar here in the UK. This was years ago, and they were amazing. We stayed behind after the gig, they all signed my album cover, and are now one of the biggest rock bands in the world, and arguably my favourite. This album was the one they played when they first came here, so I have to take this copy, my signed one, just for the memories.

Angels & Airwaves – LOVE

Some of you may have read my movie review for Love (if not, hit HERE!) and how it is one of the best films I have ever seen. The music was courtesy of Angels & Airwaves, fronted by Blink 182′s Tom DeLonge, and having seen them live several times, I can safely say they are incredible. Their music is anthemic, and is always uplifting, perfect for the island.

The Rolling Stones – Sticky Fingers

I would normally have opted for Forty Licks, but since I’m prohibited from taking a greatest hits album, I went for Sticky Fingers, which contains one of my all time favourite songs, Brown Sugar. Got to love some Stones!!

3. Suntan Lotion or Sunglasses

Has to be suntan lotion. As a blonde haired fair-skinned guy, I catch the sun easily and I get very cranky when sunburnt. Whilst there would be no one around to feel my wrath so to speak, I hate the pain of sun burn, so would have to choose lotion.

Right, there you go, those are my choices, nothing to it. Thanks again to Anthony, great idea buddy and I hope it works out well. If you want to be a Book Worm Castaway, please send an email to atothewr@gmail.com. In your subject line put “I want to be a Book Worm Castaway” so Anthony will know you are taking the challenge. He will then post one person’s answers every Wednesday at 4 P.M up HERE. If you love books or can at least read, please head on over and give it a go. And feel free to let me know how you feel about my choices below. Or pitch another side project to me! :)

    • I know, and I love the show, and have the xbox game. Just there are so many pages, and words are so tiny…….currently working through a Stephen King book and trying to get some Jack Reacher books done, whilst reading Walking Dead…….but when they are done! :)

  1. Haven’t read Game of Thrones series yet but I’ve heard its pretty awesome! You added Thirty Second to Mars which is an absolutely awesome choice!
Loving the side project! Books and music are my love! I’d love to join in :)

  2. Great idea and side project! I love how you think we saw 30 seconds to Mars in a ‘liitle bar’ to be fair it was but at Liverpool uni. I didn’t even like them at the time but they’re now one of my favourite bands. Meeting Jared after was a big highlight! And they got you into going to gigs. You would def need the sunscreen! Lol.

Might have to submit a list this is actually easier than the movies which I’m still working on.

Looking forward to reading people submissions.

  3. *sighs*

Once again you’ve mistranslated my email – my idea was for you to run a new segment called “12 Angry Men” in which, each month, you would detail 12 men you wanted to have “relations” with and then your readers would debate your selections, coming up with a jury decided “winner” – to whom we would send a barrage of emails to, asking him to meet you somewhere for a, um, dinner.

Seriously though, this is a weird week. Just earlier this week I committed to my few followers over at my book review site that I was going to commit to reading things other than just blogs. So – yeah, I’ll totally be into this and back you guys up however I can. If you wanted to check it out it’s:

and if you don’t want to check it – no worries : )

    Talk to you soon!!

  4. I’ll have to give this one some thought. I have so many favorite books and series … so much favorite music … too many! I can’t even think where to start. I’ll ponder and consider. Hmm. So many choices, so little time …
