Results Time – The Christmas Quiz

quiz poster

Time is up, and the results are in for my little Christmas Quiz! Thank you to everyone that entered, I had a really good response and people seemed to enjoy it. Please read on to see who won, and for all the answers.

First of all, I do have to make an apology, as a mistake slipped through the net, but was quickly pointed out by a couple of people. One of the movies wasn’t actually a Christmas related film, and was actually a Thanksgiving time story, so please accept my apologies for Planes, Trains & Automobiles. :)

On to the good stuff now, and I’ll just post the top 3. You will be able to see all the answers below to work out your own score if you’re not listed here, or ask me in the comments if you don’t mind your score being announced. Whilst some of you answered these off the top of your head with no googling, I know others checked around on IMDB etc. As I didn’t specify, and can’t monitor it, some have done better than others. So to those that did it all from memory, congratulations and I appreciate your effort. To those that were more crafty, next time I’ll make a quiz to try and avoid it. But nothing wrong with doing it this time, so there are no complaints from me ;)

In joint 1st position is Fernando & Bubbawheat with an amazing 24 out of 25! Funnily enough you both fell for the same sneaky trap by answering Die Hard when the answer was actually Die Hard 2! So close! In second place was Kate with 23 out of 25, who also fell for the Die Hard 2 trap, as well as the Rocky one, it was Rocky IV not V! Again, fine margins. And in third place getting himself on the podium was my Scottish brother Mark Walker with an excellent 21 out of 25.

I do admit, I tried to be quite sneaky with the posters (or a tricky bastard as someone called me!) but I hope you all had fun. Here are the answers now, and if you have any disputes with the scores please let me know. Thanks for playing!

  1. That was fun. Without cheating by using Google etc I got only 13. Threw in some sequel curve balls. As I pointed out the Bing Crosby version of White Christmas was done first in Holiday Inn. Now that would have been a reel flip. I put a still of Its a Wonderful Life as my Facebook cover photo. Merry Christmas all.

  2. That’s a great list! I got like 14 or so, which is definitely less than I was hoping but I did do most of them from memory. There were quite a few there from before my time, so I’m going to blame that for my ‘average’ score. :D

  3. Since when was Charlie Brown a movie? I love Charile and have been watching the show since it first showed up on TV when I was a whole lot younger than I am now, but it ain’t no movie. If you’re gonna include TV shows, why not Frosty and Rudolf too? Or taped concerts from the Boston Pops to St. Olaf’s in Norway? Or the many variation on the Nutcracker? Or the Christmas edition of every major TV series every made in the US or UK? Geez. “The Bishop’s Wife” (either version)? And most blatently missing — “A Christmas Story” … our all time favorite fun holiday movie. I think there’s a Christmas Star Trek or three. Nice you included “Three Godfathers,” one of Garry’s faves. I’m not objecting to inclusion of everything including the kitchen sink, but as soon as I saw Charlie Brown, I sort of felt like we were getting a tad loosy goosy with the concept of “Christmas movies.” Meanwhile, the wild strawberries in our garden think it’s spring and are actually blooming. On Christmas eve? Yikes, the world is upside down.

    • It’s my quiz ;)

Charlie Brown was one of the most chosen on my recent favourite Christmas movie poll, that’s why it was in there!

I actually chose Three Godfathers as homage to Garry as he said he was watching it. That’s how nice nice I am.

      Thanks Marilyn :)

      • It IS your quiz, Mate — but don’t mess with my Wife!! Thanks for the “Three Godfathers” homage. And, once again, from all the Mavens in our house to all the Mavens in your home, the Merriest of Christmases!! You’ve been a bright addition to this year for me!!
        You’ll do, Pilgrim!!
        Garry

      • Haha, I would never dream of messing with her! Meeting you two has been one of my blogging highlights, and I look forward to plenty more chat with you! :)

        Cheers Garry!

  4. Interesting and, yes, very diverse list!! Surprised Ralphie didn’t make it!! A BIG Merry Christmas to one and all!!
